What is System Tool 2011?

System Tool 2011 isn’t your every day, run-of-the-mill virus. It’s known as a “rogue anti-spyware” program, which is a malicious program that sneaks into your system under the guise of being useful anti-spyware software, when in fact it is actually malware. These types of programs are used for many things, from harvesting your personal information to trying to trick the user into paying to “clean their computer”.

How to Avoid These Rogue Software

Be aware that there are all kinds of fake pop ups and advertisements that will claim things like “Your Computer is Infected!!!” when in reality it isn’t. Clicking on these ads can take you to a website that will install the rogue software onto your computer, and then you’re stuck with it until you figure out a way to remove it. The best way is to simply avoid getting it on your system in the first place.

Is My Information At Risk?

Anytime you’ve had your computer infected with a virus, your personal information is at risk. It’s important that after you have successfully removed any viruses that you closely monitor all bank accounts/credit cards to ensure that their information hasn’t been compromised and isn’t being used by the people who were phishing for them. In most cases, especially those with System Tool 2011, you have nothing to worry about. That being said, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

  1. Thank you for sharing this! I woke up one morning to find this nice little program on my computer… it seems one of my nephews was viewing some “x rated” sites and managed to catch this. Fortunately that FixCleanRepair program took it right off, and even caught some other spyware stuff that I didn’t even know I had.

  5. Michael,

Did you boot your computer into safe mode with networking as stated in step 1? Depending on the state of your infected computer, you may have to do this to even access the internet at all.
